Pilates FAQs
-
Of course! Pilates is for anyone regardless of their level of fitness or experience. We offer special classes for newbees, so everyone will start at the same level. We’ll also have classes for those with more experience.
-
It’s best to figure out what fits into your schedule. One class a week is a good start, but the more frequently you practice, the sooner you’ll see a difference. Taking different types of classes will help you avoid overuse and target different parts of the body.
-
Yes! The most common Pilates machine is called a Reformer and we have three. Reformer sessions provide a full-body workout using spring resistance. The difficulty level of each class is based on the experience and knowledge of the participants. Our instructors will also modify exercises to ensure safety and effectiveness for all.
-
Comfort is the most important thing. Wear something you can move easily in. Close fitting clothes will make it easier for your instructor to check your form. Socks are necessary on the equipment, and grippy socks are suggested. (We have some for sale if you need them.)
-
Not at all. Pilates is an excellent conditioning exercise for anyone. Our Men on Mats and Men on Reformer classes are designed with more masculine moves in mind.
-
Yes! Private Groups mean you are in charge of who is in the group. Reformer groups are limited to three people, but Mat groups can have up to six. So grab your besties and enjoy some Pilates.
-
Pilates is an ideal compliment to any other type of training. Pair Pilates sessions with strength training, cardio exercise or personal training for a great overall conditioning routine.
-
There are no guarantees, but Pilates training has been found to improve body awareness, rotational control, core strength and force transfer, all things necessary for a good golf swing. Our spring ‘Get Ready for Golf’ classes can help point you in the right direction.
-
Pilates is designed to create better muscular balance in the body. Regular practice can help you find the tight areas and work to realign the skeleton which often results in increased flexibility. You may not be able to touch your toes, but you may find greater ease of movement.
-
Yes, as long as we have a note from your medical team stating that you are clear to start a Pilates program. Our instructors are not therapists and we cannot provide physio, however we have experience working with clients once therapy has been completed and a maintenance program has been suggested. Contact us for more details.
-
Yes! We offer a variety of classes for the active aging population. Seated Pilates is done either sitting on or standing behind a chair. It is ideal for those with limited mobility. We also offer Reformer for Older Adults, where exercises are geared toward those who have less strength and flexibility.

Since I prefer to connect with you directly, all you have to do is send an email to train@uxbridgepilates.com and let me know what course or workshop you are interested in attending. It will speed up the process if you include all your contact information (full mailing address, phone number). I’ll get right back to you and complete the registration process.
-
Registering as soon as possible will ensure your spot is held in the workshop. There are limited spaces, so it’s best to reserve early. You can move to another course or workshop at any time (if space allows), however, if you need to cancel once you’ve paid, there will be a $10 administration fee. If there is a need for us to cancel or change the training, we’ll let you know your options.
-
Once you send your registration information, you will be given a link for payment. You can use Interac e-transfer if you reside in Canada, or you can pay by credit card. You will be emailed a receipt as soon as your payment is received.
